14 million patients now use GP online services

Almost 14 million people across England use online facilities offered by their GPs to book appointments, order repeat prescriptions and view their records – saving time for themselves and busy GP practices.

Figures compiled by NHS England show that 24% of patients are registered for online services with their family doctor and in February 2018 over one million appointments were booked or cancelled online and 2.3 million prescriptions were ordered online. the availability of online services has benefitted patients -who are able to access services in their own time rather than being constrained by surgery hours- and GP practices which have seen a reduction in the number of patients failing to attend appointments and an easing of pressure on the phone systems.
