NHS Digital introduce new tool for patient opt-out to stop confidential data being used for research purposes

NHS Digital have introduced a new tool that people can use to opt out of their confidential patient information being used for reasons other than their individual care and treatment.

This is part of a vision to improve patients’ trust and confidence in how data is looked after by the health and social care system. Patients and the public who decide they do not want their personally identifiable data used for planning and research purposes will be able to set their national data opt-out choice online.

The national data opt-out is available for the public online from 25 May at www.nhs.uk/my-data-choice. For those who do not want to or cannot access the service digitally there is a national telephone service available on 0300 303 5678
