Blood levels critically low!
An amber alert has been issued for the first time ever by the NHS Blood and Transplant service (NHSBT). A plea for more blood donors has gone out as supplies are critically low. Hospitals use a traffic light system for scheduling operations, and an amber alert, means they must ‘reduce and prioritise’ blood use. Blood Type O is particularly low and could mean elective surgeries such as hip replacements may need to be cancelled due to rationing of blood.
To help raise the blood stock levels, give blood if you can.
Book appointments and check the latest guidance on Covid-19, and give blood by calling 0300 123 23 23, or by downloading the NHS Give Blood app.
